Holiday Practice Schedule: A practice will be added on Saturday, December 26 at 7: 45 a.m. - 8:55 a.m. Otherwise, practices will occur at the regular times with the exceptions being: Thursday, December 24 / Friday, Dec. 25 / Thurs. Dec. 31 / Fri. Jan. 1. The Lake is CLOSED on these dates.

Lakeside Masters Annual Holiday Party: Saturday, December 19, 1998 at Kirk and Camilla Buese's home. 7:00 - midnight. Please bring an appetizer or dessert to serve 8-12 people.

Short Course Meters Relay Meet: Sunday, December 27. To be held at Lakeside. Time is yet to be determined. Please let a Lakeside coach know by December 22 if you will be participating. Time trial events may also be swum that day. See Bill if you are interested in a time trial.
Volunteer timers will be needed for the relay meet. Let us know if you can help. Call Mary at the Lake before December 22.

Entries will soon be available for the Bowling Green Meet. The Barbara Stevens Invitational Swim Meet is on January 30, 1999. It generally starts around 10:00 a.m. CST and lasts 4-5 hours. Consider this a good short course meet... and it's close by.

During changeover season the Lakeside Exercise Room will be open September 14 - October 9th.
Monday, Wednesday and Friday 6 - 10 AM and 4 - 8 PM
Tuesday and Thursday 4 - 8 PM
Children are not allowed in facility during the Changeover period.

KUDOS TO ALL WHO HELPED MAKE OUR 1998-99 SEASON A SUCCESSFUL ONE!
A sincere thank you for each team member who contributed a little bit extra to support our swim team this past year. Whether you timed a swim meet, placed an advertisement or worked on our Meet Program, pulled touch pads, hosted a party, served on a party committee, recruited a new member, took splits at meets, whatever... we thank you and continue to emphasize that OUR TEAM NEEDS YOU. Please consider an area of volunteerism for our team for the 1998-99 year.

Welcome to our four new Board Members: Caroline Donnelly, Randall DuFour, Charlie Miesner and John Nolan. Amy Pope, Dale Mercker and Linda Jayaweera, along with Bill Tingley and Mary Graves will serve the 98-99 year with the new board members. A tremendous thank you to our Board Members who will be completing their two year term this year... Pam Haeberlin, Chuck Lambert, Larry Keaton, and Bill Wittig.

!! Congratulations to Mary Jane Mullins who attended the 1998 USMS Long Course National Championships in Ft. Lauderdale in August. M.J. finished 1st in the 50 Fly and 100 Back, 2nd in the 200 Back, 3rd in 50 Back!! Way to go, M.J.

Changeover Period. With the Lake closing after our Labor Day practice on Monday, Lakeside Masters will be conducting their "transition" practices at St.X High School beginning on Tuesday evening Sept. 8. We will return to the Lakeside bubble on October 18. Don't miss these important weeks because the coaching staff will be concentrating on techniques involved in strokes, turns and starts as well as aerobic training. The stroke clinics were demonstrated in the summer and are being repeated due to popular demand. Special attention will be given to those all important IM "transition" turns. Clinics will be taped as a resource for swimmers' use. We will also tape individual swimmers for critique if requested.

   August '98 News

The 22nd Annual Lakeside Masters Invitational Swim Meet was a great success!! Many swimmers managed to better their times from last year (or from earlier this year). We got lucky with the weather, too. The Lakeside coaches congratulate their swimmers on a meet well done. Lakeside Masters swimmers want to thank their coaches for the expert training advice given during the season. As you can see, your hard work has reaped rewards! Meet results can be accessed under that header in the navigation bar of this site.

The after the meet party was hosted this year by Marty and Nancy O'Toole at their home. Party-goers managed to dodge the raindrops and carried on in grand style. Thank you to Marty and Nancy for hosting the shindig!

A BIG THANK YOU to all of the volunteers to the meet: Meet directors, USS officials, referrees, timers, scorers, awards table, clerk of course, administrative, equipment, program design, t-shirt design, hospitality, advertisers, etc., etc.

Summer Clinics. During the last few weeks, the Masters Coaching Staff has been holding clinics for each of the four strokes. All clinics focused on stroke technique, stroke drills and application in practice and competition. Please see any coach for stroke drill handout information.

22nd Annual Lakeside Masters Invitational Swim Meet: August 8-9. Please contact Mary for ways you can help with our meet. Please pick up a white flyer which lists ways to support our meet program, i.e. advertisements or the "Off the Wall" page. You can also get information on the program from Amy Pope and Bill Wittig. All ads and "Off the Wall" forms must be turned into Amy Pope or Mary Graves no later than Sunday, July 19, 1998.

The after the meet party will be hosted this year by Marty and Nancy O'Toole at their home at 1718 Fraser Drive, just 5 minutes from Lakeside. More information on the party in next month's newsletter.

Check with Mary about contributing items for the meet packets. We would need a quantity of 200. We will stuff the packets on Thursday, August 6 after practice.

Annual June Picnic. Due to a rainy morning, the summer kick-off picnic was held in the Activities Building on June 14th. It was decided to postpone the TEAM PHOTO to another Sunday.     May '98 News

Members of Lakeside Masters are proud of head coach Bill Tingley who was named the 1998 recipient of the Ransom J. Arthur Award. USMS' most prestigious national award is presented annually to a person "who, in the opinion of his or her peers among the membership, has made significant contributions to the goals and objectives of Masters swimming. ...a person whose performance and contributions at the national, regional and local levels has been outstanding."

The award was presented to Bill at the USMS Short Course Championships in Indianapolis on May 9. It will be officially presented at the USAS Convention in Cincinnati on October 3, 1998.
